Working with councillors to review the personalisation process
Councillors from the Adult Social Care Health and Wellbeing Sub-committee have been reviewing the personalisation process. They gathered evidence from service users, carers, managers and staff involved in delivering services. Alison Chalmers, LINk development worker, acted as a link between the councillors and our third sector group throughout the review.
The councillors reported their findings to the Cabinet of North Tyneside Council on 16 April 2012 and Councillor John O'Shea has offered to present the report to our LINk third sector personalisation group. The Cabinet has two months to respond to the recommendations of the report.

LINk's report on information needed about personal budgets was approved by the LINk Board on 30 August. We were pleased to receive positive responses to the report and recommendations from both North Tyneside Council and North Tyneside Primary Care Trust. Making a difference - at the November 2011 LINk board meeting Haley Hudson, North Tyneside Council, told us the council had written new leaflets on personalisation with the help of small focus groups. The board suggested improvements to the leaflet and Haley later confirmed these changes were made before the leaflet was printed. The council is continuing to add to its series of leaflets and fact sheets about personla budgets.

Personalisation - what do you mean?
Resource allocations systems are what the council use to decide how much money you get for your support. The system has clear, public rules so everyone can see that the money is given out fairly.
A broker is an individual or organisation that can help you with your support needs. Brokerage can be done by the council, voluntary organisations, private companies or an individual. A professional broker is someone you can pay to do this.
A support plan says how you will spend your budget to get the life you want. You can get help to make a plan, perhaps from family or friends, or you could pay someone who specialises in planning. Your local authority must agree your plan before you get your support money.
A direct payment is an amount of money paid directly to you (or a suitable other person) straight into a bank account so you can arrange your support yourself, instead of having support delivered by your council.
