Working with the Child Health Action Team (CHAT)
LINk's young people's working group has been working with Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust's Child Health Action Team (CHAT). They explored the issues of mental health and staff attitudes towards young people at a series of evening workshops. These were the priority issues that came out of LINk's young people's event held in February 2010. The young people produced short role-play films and interviews expressing their experiences and ideas for improvement.
You're welcome accreditation for young people's hospital services
Services for young people at North Tyneside General Hospital have been given 'You're welcome' accreditation by the Department of Health. This recognises the quality and appropriateness for young people of their information and publicity, accessibility of services, confidentiality and staff training and skills. (January 2011)
LINk is working with the 'you're welcome' project to involve more young people in health and care services. Alison Chalmers. LINk Development Worker, attended 'you're welcome' training for service providers in January 2011. More information about You're welcome accreditation
Publicity
In October 2009 LINk worked with members of North Tyneside Volunteer Centre's Youth Action Team to design some publicity aimed at young people. The folding leaflet not only contains information about LINk and what its purpose is, but also details of a number of youth-related health facts and services in North Tyneside and the surrounding area. You can download the leaflet here.
This was distributed widely in GP surgeries, youth services and organisations. If you would like to order a supply of this leaflets, please contact the LINk Team.

ng people's survey
The Youth Action Team also helped LINk staff to design a survey that aimed to find out what health issues and services are important to young people, and to find out the areas they believed could be improved. In total,160 young people were surveyed, both face to face and online.

Young people's events
February 2010 - The results of LINk's Your Health Care, Your Say survey went on to inform an event for young people. The aim of the event was to explore the issues raised in both the survey, and in the NHS Quality Criteria You're Welcome. This document sets out a series of principles that will help health services become young-people friendly.
The event was attended by 16 young people, and a number of health and social care professionals. After a wake-up exercise and introductions, workshop discussions took place around six themes, The young people were asked to discuss these topics in detail, to share their experiences of health services and to make recommendations for improvement. They were then asked to vote on their their priorities, with those that received the most votes (mental health, staff attitudes towards young people and web-based information) being taken forward by LINk as part of its workplan.
Following a healthy lunch, the afternoon saw the young people take part in a range of healthy activities. A great day was had by all.
